Job Summary Cape Girardeau County government has an immediate opening for a detailed and analytical Field Appraiser in the Assessor's office located in the Jackson, MO office. In this position, your responsibilities include the appraisal of real and personal property, including land and improvements. These duties involve both field and electronic data gathering, on-site inspections, and verification of current physical and market conditions. The position reports to the Chief Appraiser. Responsibilities Perform field inspections of real property within Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. This requires working with property owners (when present), collecting data using County and State guidelines and procedures, measuring and sketching improvements to scale, taking photographs, and making qualified judgements regarding the quality, condition, use and occupancy of each improvement. Ensure assessments accurately and fairly reflect actual property conditions that are legally defensible to the citizens of Cape Girardeau County and the County Board of Equalization. Measure and photograph all properties with sufficient detail and accuracy to effectively document and list all subject properties. Enter data collected from field inspections into the County's CAMA (computer assisted mass appraisal) system efficiently and accurately. Use a mapping system while in the field to accurately identify subject properties and locations. Essential Skills Proficient knowledge of, and ability to read and locate, property descriptions from maps and other source materials. Must have valid drivers license with clean record. Proficient knowledge and understanding of construction types and techniques, both residential and commercial. Knowledge of basic measuring tools, including (but not limited to) tape measures, laser measures, etc. Knowledge of operating office equipment including, but not limited to, mapping and appraisal software, plotters, copiers, computers, and telephone. Proficient in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat (for producing PDF files) Ability to maintain positive customer service skills in all situations Proficient in mathematical calculations and reading financial data Ability to use proper grammar, punctuation and spelling Ability to use independent judgement and perform accurate work while multi-tasking
