Position Summary Perform complex paraprofessional work in support of engineering or project management activities. This position, under general supervision, is responsible for reviewing construction drawings for minimum requirements and passing the plans to the Plan Reviewers in a timely manner. This role will also require exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively address customer inquiries regarding permit and code information. Essential Functions Support the Permit Technician I and II duties Ensure plans submitted for Commercial Plan Review meet minimum submittal guidelines and formatting Provides final acceptance of plans to be submitted for plan review Educate customers and employees on processes to submit plans Apply local ordinances, design specifications, standards manual, etc. to private construction projects to ensure adequate infrastructure is constructed with minimal impact to the environment Conduct needs assessments Administer project related contracts Enforce local land use regulations Gather and compile information for contractors Interview customers to determine project requirements Write project specifications Analyze and resolve service requests Prepare cost estimates for project budgets Utilize a computer and specialized software applications and/or programs to generate reports, invoices, and/or maps Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications Experience:

Minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment.

Education:

Associate's degree in Engineering, Construction, Surveying, or Real Estate Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes Licenses and Certifications Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License Must obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Applicable principles, practices, methods, and techniques used in assigned area of responsibility Mathematical concepts Engineering plans, specifications, and surveying work Applicable equipment utilized in the construction trades Applicable Federal, State and local statutes, codes, and regulations Recordkeeping principles and practices Databases Filing systems Customer service principles Skills Completing paperwork and documentation Reviewing plans and/or specifications Performing a variety of engineering-related calculations Providing customer service Conducting site inspections Interpreting and enforcing regulations Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and plans Performing mathematical calculations Maintaining records and filing systems
