About theEngineering Underwriting Role:
As an Engineering Underwriting Analyst in the Swiss Re Graduate Programme, you will develop a 360° view of Engineering and Specialty Reinsurance while contributing across the underwriting value chain. Working alongside experienced underwriters, engineers, and risk professionals, you will analyze complex risks, contribute to underwriting decisions, and help solve real business challenges from day one. You will benefit from structured training, mentoring, regular coaching, and exposure to senior leaders. By the end of the programme, you will have developed a broad understanding of underwriting, portfolio management, claims, client engagement, and risk assessment while establishing the foundation for a specialized career within Swiss Re.Your responsibilities will include:
Review and assess risk factors for project applications across a broad range of industries, including (but not limited to) Infrastructure, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Power Generation, Renewable Energy, Industrial Engineering, Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and & Naval or Marine Engineering. You'll work to assess emerging risks and global critical projects such as semiconductor plants, data centres, battery manufacturing, hydrogen power generation, and more. Review technical reports, project information, coverage terms, loss history, financial information, natural catastrophe exposures and market trends. Analyse risk information , including engineering inspection reports or other technical assessments, coverage information, loss history, financial statements, and market trends, to prepare and propose informed decisions on policy acceptance or rejection Calculate appropriate premiums based on risk assessment, natural catastrophe risk, coverage provided, within company guidelines Collaborate with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to to develop a well-rounded underwriting view of each risk. Participate inclient meetings, broker discussions, marketing events, and cross-functional projects as your experience grows. Support risk selection, pricing, and underwriting recommendations within company guidelines and with guidance from senior underwriters. Active involvement in a cross functional project to gain an end-end understanding of the underwriting value chain incl. portfolio steering. By working directly in the business, you will broaden and deepen your skills and expertise in at least one of the following areas: Underwriting (Property, Casualty, Specialty), Claims handling, Client management, Portfolio steering and Data analytics. You will specifically focus on North America and Latin America regions. This team provides key insights and maximizes our impact on client needs across the region, specializing in reinsurance for construction projects, civil infrastructure, industrial power generation, renewable energy, and other complex engineering risks. You will join a global team with diverse professional and technical backgrounds in 14 of our offices around the world.
