Job Description

Risk Manager (Onsite) | 1-Year Contract | Berkeley, CA | $90/hour •No C2C, subcontractors, or third-party candidates will be considered •Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is seeking an experienced Risk Manager to support the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) , a major scientific infrastructure project that will help shape the future of advanced scientific research. This highly visible role will serve as the project's risk management leader, partnering with executive leadership, engineering teams, and project controls professionals to provide strategic risk insight, quantitative analysis, and decision support. The successful candidate will help guide risk-informed decision-making across project cost, schedule, technical performance, and contingency planning. The ideal candidate brings experience supporting large, complex capital projects and a proven ability to translate technical and quantitative risk information into actionable insights for senior leadership.

Must be authorized to work in the US without current or future visa sponsorship. Key Responsibilities Lead project-wide risk management processes, governance, and reporting. Facilitate risk workshops and maintain the project risk register. Develop risk mitigation strategies and monitor risk exposure, ownership, and action items. Perform quantitative cost and schedule risk analyses, including Monte Carlo simulations. Partner with Project Controls to integrate risk data with schedules, estimates, forecasts, and contingency planning. Prepare executive-level risk reports, presentations, and recommendations for project leadership. Support continuous improvement of risk management tools, processes, and training. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Economics, Statistics, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in project risk management, project controls, or quantitative cost and schedule analysis supporting large, complex capital projects. Experience leading risk management efforts for large-scale infrastructure, scientific, construction, aerospace, defense, or similar programs. Experience leading risk workshops, maintaining risk registers, developing mitigation plans, and performing quantitative risk analysis. Proficiency with Safran Risk Manager, Safran Risk, Primavera P6 , or comparable risk and project controls platforms. Ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex risk information into actionable decisions. Strong communication, facilitation, analytical, and executive presentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting DOE national laboratories or federally funded capital projects. Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) . PMP, PMI-RMP, AACE, or similar certification. Advanced degree in a related discipline.
