Job Description

Tax Intern Position Overview We are seeking a motivated Tax Intern to join our tax team within a privately held, real-estate-focused family office. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience preparing tax returns for real estate entities, investment partnerships and trusts while developing a practical understanding of how tax functions operate in the private sector. The Tax Intern will work under the supervision of the Tax Director and work closely with experienced tax professionals. The role is designed to provide meaningful ownership of assignments, exposure to complex tax issues and a clear view of the career opportunities available outside of public accounting. Key Responsibilities Assist with the preparation of federal and state tax returns for: Real estate partnerships and other pass-through entities Investment partnerships Trusts and related fiduciary filings Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers, including income, expense, basis and reconciliation schedules. Review and organize tax documents, financial statements and investor information. Assist with the preparation and review of Schedule K-1 information. Reconcile tax workpapers to underlying accounting records and supporting documentation. Research tax issues involving partnerships, real estate transactions, investments and fiduciary entities. Assist with notices, tax inquiries and requests from external tax advisors. Support tax compliance deadlines by tracking open items and following up on missing information. Participate in process-improvement initiatives designed to make the family office's tax function more efficient. Maintain accurate records while protecting confidential financial and personal information. Learning Opportunities The intern will gain experience with: Real-world preparation of complex pass-through returns Tax compliance for real estate and investment structures Trust and fiduciary income-tax concepts Partnership allocations and Schedule K-1 reporting Working directly with senior tax professionals and external advisors The day-to-day operation of an in-house tax department Business processes that emphasize accuracy, teamwork and manageable workloads Qualifications Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting Must have completed junior year coursework by June 2027 Interest in pursuing a career in taxation A good attitude, and a willingness to learn Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills Careful attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel Ability to handle confidential information professionally Work Environment and Schedule This internship offers the opportunity to experience a professional tax environment while maintaining a more predictable and sustainable schedule than is typically associated with public accounting. This position will be full time in office with a work schedule of 40 hours per week.
