Role:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Associat e to take ownership of indirect, property, and alcohol tax compliance and research during a maternity leave coverage period. This role will manage tax responsibilities across California and Texa s, with Pennsylvani a being added in the near future. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, knowledge of multi-state tax regulations, and hands-on experience with sales & use, excise, and property ta x. Key Responsibilities:
Take ownership o f multi-state indirect, property, and alcohol t ax compliance for California, Texas, and upcoming Pennsylvania operations Prepare and fil e monthly sales and use tax retur ns, including Texas filings, which may frequently have a zero tax liability but are still required to be filed monthly Research and analyz e sales and use tax requiremen ts related to machinery purchases, imports, and purchases made from vendors outside the United States Revie w AP invoices and transactional da ta to determine sales tax applicability and identify missing, incorrect, or improperly applied tax Analyze transactions acros s state, county, city, and township jurisdictio ns to ensure the appropriate tax treatment and compliance Perform tax research on complex and evolvin g multi-state sales/use, excise, alcohol, and property tax regulatio ns Support property tax compliance, reporting, and research for applicable business assets and jurisdictions Manag e alcohol/excise t ax responsibilities and related compliance requirements Maintain accurate tax records, documentation, workpapers, and filing support Reconcile tax data and investigate discrepancies between accounting records, AP transactions, and tax filings Partner with Accounting and Accounts Payable teams to resolve tax discrepancies and improve transaction-level tax accuracy Monitor filing calendars and ensure all tax returns, payments, and compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time Suppor t year-end tax activiti es, with the primary year-end cycle occurring i n February/Mar ch Research tax questions and provide clear recommendations regarding appropriate tax treatment Assist with additional tax projects and compliance initiatives as needed
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field Experience wi th multi-state tax compliance and resea rch Working knowledge of sales & use tax, excise/alcohol tax, and property tax Strong understanding of state and local tax jurisdictions, includi ng state, county, city, and township requireme nts
