BURDICK RICHARDSON
Burdick Richardson, PLLC is a newly formed, independently owned tax and accounting practice preparing to begin operations in 2027, with a focus on tax compliance, planning, and related advisory services. We are building the practice intentionally around thoughtful client service, modern technology, clear processes, and sustainable careers. This is an opportunity to join near the beginning and help shape how the practice works.
THE ROLE
This role is for an experienced operations professional who is exceptionally organized, takes ownership of processes, and enjoys both client service and detailed hands-on work. Prior tax-preparation experience is a plus, but we are willing to teach tax to the right operations-minded person. The Experienced Tax Operations & Client Services Specialist will own the daily movement of client information and work through the practice, including document intake, mail and scanning, portal administration, engagement and e-file tracking, return delivery, billing, collections, payments, vendor coordination, and procedure documentation. The role also includes preparation of simple individual tax returns after training. Because payroll, benefits administration, onboarding support, and routine HR administration are largely outsourced, this position can focus on true practice operations, client workflows, and tax work.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Client document intake and routing across mail, secure portals, electronic delivery, and in-person drop-off Scanning, file naming, document organization, portal access, e-signatures, return delivery, and filing records Billing preparation, accounts-receivable follow-up, payment and deposit records, and routine client-process communications Office supplies, routine purchasing, vendor follow-up, records retention, and practical day-to-day office coordination Procedure documentation, workflow improvement, software implementation, and participation in technology decisions
TAX AND ACCOUNTING WORK
Prepare tax organizers and organize source documents for individual income tax returns Prepare simple Forms 1040 after training and under appropriate review Support extensions, e-file assembly, authorizations, and acceptance monitoring Prepare Forms 1099 when assigned Use bookkeeping or general accounting knowledge to understand how financial information fits together, with potential to expand into more-complex returns
WHO WILL THRIVE HERE
You are genuinely and demonstrably organized. You create systems, use checklists and trackers, notice missing information, and do not rely on memory alone. You have enough professional experience to exercise judgment, communicate confidently, and take ownership without step-by-step direction. You enjoy improving processes but are equally willing to handle mail, scanning, filing, client follow-up, and other hands-on work. You care about clients, learn unfamiliar software and technical work readily, and ask thoughtful questions when you do not know something. You want a role that can grow with a small practice rather than a narrowly defined production-only position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of increasingly responsible experience in office operations, professional-services administration, bookkeeping or accounting support, client-service operations, or a similarly deadline-driven environment A track record of owning recurring processes, deadlines, documents, and follow-up Exceptional organization, attention to detail, professional maturity, discretion, and follow-through Strong written and verbal communication and comfort working directly with clients, owners, coworkers, and vendors Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, spreadsheets, PDF tools, and electronic document systems; ability to learn new technology quickly Ability to work in person in Greenwood Village, reliable transportation for occasional local errands, and comfort handling confidential information and hands-on administrative work
ESPECIALLY VALUABLE EXPERIENCE
Five or more years of relevant professional experience Work in a tax, accounting, legal, financial-services, or other professional-services environment Bookkeeping, reconciliations, invoicing, accounts receivable, cash receipts, or general accounting support Individual tax-return preparation, tax-production workflow, or Forms 1041, 1065, or 1099 experience Experience with CCH Axcess, QuickBooks, secure portals, e-signatures, scanning, document management, workflow systems, or procedure writing A bachelor's degree is welcome but not required. Directly relevant experience, judgment, and operational ownership matter more than a particular degree.
SCHEDULE OPTIONS
Consistent 30-hour schedule A regular schedule of at least 30 hours every week is available for a candidate who wants the employer-sponsored benefit package. Because benefit eligibility depends on the schedule, 30 hours must be a firm and consistent weekly commitment. Flexible 20-29-hour schedule A more flexible 20-29-hour arrangement may be available for an especially experienced candidate who can perform the role efficiently and independently. Hours may vary somewhat with workload and mutual agreement, but this schedule is not eligible for the employer-sponsored medical and welfare plans described below. Hours may be arranged over three to five weekdays within normal office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday availability is strongly preferred. Additional tax-season hours may be available but are not routinely required. This is an in-person role. Limited remote work may occasionally be approved for suitable tasks outside normal business hours.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on directly relevant experience, operational capability, tax or accounting background, and the agreed schedule. The position is nonexempt, and overtime or other legally required premiums will be paid in accordance with applicable law.
Annual incentive:
Eligibility for an annual incentive bonus based on practice profitability and specific, measurable individual performance goals. Available to employees in either schedule arrangement: Flexible paid vacation, subject to advance approval, business needs, and reasonable use Paid practice holidays when they fall on a regularly scheduled workday A separately tracked bank of 48 hours of paid sick and safe leave each year Employer-paid, approved continuing education and professional development Annual incentive bonus eligibility 401(k) retirement plan, including employer matching contributions, subject to plan eligibility and terms Additional benefits for a consistent schedule of at least 30 hours per week: The practice expects to pay 100% of employee-only premiums for medical, dental, vision, basic life/AD&D, and long-term disability coverage, subject to final plan terms and eligibility Dependent coverage may be elected at the employee's expense; the practice does not expect to contribute toward spouse or dependent premiums Coverage is expected to begin on the first day of the month following the date of hire, subject to final plan terms and enrollment requirements Additional voluntary benefits may be available at the employee's expense
