Position Summary Prominent global corporation headquartered in Western Suffolk County is hiring a Senior Sales & Use Tax Accountant for its corporate tax department. This position focuses on filing and verification of multi-state sales and use tax returns in compliance with state and local regulations. The role is hybrid, with part of the week on-site and the rest from home.
Core Responsibilities Tax Compliance & Returns:
Prepare and review multi-state sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions to align with changing state and local regulations.
General Ledger & Reconciliations:
Handle journal entries, perform complex account reconciliations, track down reporting variances, and determine or recommend corrective actions.
Invoice Auditing:
Review purchase invoices to determine proper taxability and verify the accuracy of use tax accruals.
Exemption Certificate Tracking:
Review and validate customer sales tax exemption certificates based on specific state requirements and maintain data accuracy within tax software.
Tax Engine Maintenance:
Maintain data configurations and transaction setups within specialized tax software and the corporate ERP system.
Audit Prep & Research:
Gather necessary support documentation for external audit requests and research evolving tax laws to ensure corporate compliance.
Process Improvements:
Evaluate existing tax workflows to suggest operational improvements, including supporting internal automation and robotics process initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. A Masters or CPA is helpful but not mandatory.
Experience:
Five or more years of progressive Multi-state Sales and Use Tax experience.
Technical Suite:
Hands-on proficiency with Vertex or a comparable enterprise tax management system.
Systems & Data:
Experience working with Tableau data visualization tools or Oracle ERP is considered a distinct advantage.
Excel Mastery:
Advanced Excel skills are strictly required to manage large data sets.

Ability to work independently with general direction from leadership while collaborating smoothly across internal teams.
