A Tax Examiner or Collector examines tax returns, bills of sale and other documents to determine the type and amount of taxes, duties and other types of fees to be paid by individuals or businesses, referring exceptional or important cases to accountants, senior government officials or managers.
1. Contact delinquent borrowers and co-borrowers by phone and mail and handle non-routine matters that arise as well as assist members that call in and be sure to follow up with members on a timely basis. 2. Assess financial situations of delinquent borrowers; determine mutually acceptable payment arrangements and assist them in developing plans to bring accounts to a current status, keep supervisor informed of collections issues on a regular basis and bring repossession issues to supervisor for review. 3. Maintain accurate files and report on all collection activity in Epysis, Meridan Collect, Velera and NorState Pay and credit disputes. 4. Handle negative share and share draft accounts by calling members, making payment plans, handling the member privilege program and writing off negative accounts when necessary. Keep adequate files and present monthly report to supervisor. 5. Assist with sending letters and Notices of Right to Cure as necessary. 6. Assist with payment plans of current accounts for charge-off loans and shares. 7. Assist with tax liens and foreclosures and Bankruptcy notices. 8. Handle correspondence with affiliates collection agencies and attorneys and send files when necessary. 9. Assist with administrative duties, such as Court Claims, Disclosures and preparing files to send to the Attorney. As well as assist with the repo report, handle LSI auto claims and file attorney files as applicable. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. 10. Assist with NSF Recovery for the Accounting department and possibly work with the DA's office. 11. Assist with skip pay requests as applicable.
Performance Measurements :
1. Maintain accurate and complete records of all collection and recovery activity. 2. Ensure that collection activity is both within credit union policy and all relevant regulations. 3. Adhere to provisions as set forth in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and ensure collection activity is always within credit union policy and all relevant regulations. 4. Identify and inform management of potential underwriting problems/issues. 5. Provide informed, professional assistance and support to all members and colleagues, troubleshoot and resolve inquiries in a timely, friendly and accurate manner. 6. Collect XX% or more of all delinquent accounts assigned. 7. Behave in a positive manner, and assist co-workers as needed in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner. Avoid negative behaviors and comply with all credit union policies including reporting to work on time and avoiding unnecessary absences. 8. Maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness. 9. Maintain a strong working relationship with attorneys concerning the legality of collection issues and compliance issues. 10. Comply with requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act, NCUA rules and regulations, and any other regulations pertaining to the job as described and credit union operations.

Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills:
Ability to operate a 10-key calculator, and a computer keyboard (40wpm) for extended periods of time. Working knowledge of the internet, email, and software applications including Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills Attention to detail Professional voice and good diction. Speak clearly and listen carefully.
