Enrolled Agent - Tax Resolution Lewis Tax Firm, Inc. - Jackson, Tennessee Full-Time | In-Person | $25.00-$30.00 per hour Lewis Tax Firm, Inc. is seeking a full-time Enrolled Agent to join our Tax Resolution Division in Jackson, Tennessee. This position is primarily focused on IRS tax resolution, taxpayer representation, and active casework . The Enrolled Agent will work directly under the firm's Chief Counsel and will be trained in the firm's procedures for investigating, developing, and resolving federal tax matters.
IMPORTANT CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENT
Applicants must currently hold an active Enrolled Agent credential issued by the Internal Revenue Service . This is a mandatory requirement for the position. Applicants who are not currently credentialed Enrolled Agents will not be considered. Experience in tax preparation, accounting, or bookkeeping does not substitute for the Enrolled Agent credential. We are willing to provide substantial in-house training in tax resolution. Prior tax resolution experience is not required. An Enrolled Agent who has strong tax knowledge and wants to develop a career specializing in IRS representation is encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, year-round professional position , not a seasonal tax preparation position. Primary Responsibilities The Enrolled Agent will assist with and, as experience develops, independently manage assigned tax resolution cases, including: Obtaining and analyzing IRS account, return, and wage and income transcripts Conducting preliminary case investigations Identifying filing, compliance, assessment, and collection issues Preparing Forms 2848 and other IRS authorization documents Preparing Forms 433-A, 433-B, 433-F and supporting financial documentation Calculating taxpayer collection potential and analyzing financial information Communicating directly with taxpayers regarding their cases Communicating with IRS representatives on behalf of clients Preparing and negotiating installment agreements Developing Currently Not Collectible cases Assisting with Offers in Compromise Preparing penalty abatement requests Addressing federal tax liens and levies Assisting with collection appeals and other IRS administrative proceedings Responding to IRS notices and correspondence Conducting tax research as necessary Maintaining detailed and contemporaneous case notes Monitoring deadlines and moving assigned cases toward resolution Keeping firm leadership informed regarding case developments, risks, and recommended strategies The Enrolled Agent will work under the direction and supervision of firm leadership , particularly while completing the firm's tax resolution training and developing independent case-management capabilities. Tax Preparation Responsibilities This position will also participate in the firm's tax preparation practice, but tax preparation is not the primary purpose of the position .
Responsibilities may include:
Reviewing individual and business tax returns Assisting tax preparation staff with technical tax questions Identifying issues affecting clients' resolution cases Reviewing returns for accuracy, compliance, and consistency Preparing returns when necessary, particularly where preparation is connected to an active resolution matter Providing additional oversight and support during tax season Required Qualifications The Enrolled Agent credential is mandatory. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
Applicants must:
Hold a current, active Enrolled Agent credential issued by the Internal Revenue Service Have a working knowledge of federal individual income taxation Have professional tax preparation experience Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills Be comfortable communicating directly with clients Have excellent written and verbal communication skills Be highly organized and capable of managing multiple active matters and deadlines Maintain strict confidentiality regarding taxpayer and firm information Be comfortable learning detailed IRS procedures and applying them to individual cases Be able to work full-time and in person at our Jackson, Tennessee office Preferred Qualifications The following experience is beneficial but not required : Prior IRS tax resolution experience IRS collection representation Transcript analysis Forms 433-A, 433-B or 433-F Installment Agreements Currently Not Collectible cases Offers in Compromise Penalty abatement Federal tax lien or levy matters Appeals or Collection Due Process matters Business income tax return preparation Professional tax preparation or tax practice software Enrolled Agents should not be discouraged from applying solely because they have limited tax resolution experience. We are prepared to train the right candidate. In-House Tax Resolution Training Lewis Tax Firm maintains an active tax resolution practice, and we are prepared to train the right Enrolled Agent in this area. Training will include the firm's procedures for case investigation, transcript analysis, financial analysis, IRS collections, resolution strategy, client communication, IRS representation, case documentation, and case management. Initially, the successful candidate will work closely with and under firm leadership. As competency is demonstrated, the Enrolled Agent will be given increasing responsibility for independently working and managing assigned cases. Our objective is to develop this position into a highly capable tax resolution professional who can take ownership of cases while recognizing when a matter requires escalation or additional strategic review. Compensation $25.00-$30.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability. This is a full-time, year-round position. Compensation and responsibility may increase as the employee demonstrates proficiency in tax resolution and the ability to independently manage assigned cases. Our tax resolution practice represents taxpayers dealing with IRS collection and compliance matters. We believe cases should be actively worked, thoroughly documented, and moved toward resolution rather than simply monitored. We are seeking an Enrolled Agent who wants to develop substantial experience in taxpayer representation and become a long-term member of our professional team.
