Senior Tax Manager — CPA Firm — Birmingham, AL About Titus CPAs Titus CPAs (formerly Lischkoff & Pitts) is a Birmingham CPA firm serving closely held business owners and individuals across Alabama and the Southeast. We focus on client relationships over transactional compliance work. Clients hear from us during the year, not only in April. We're a small firm on purpose. That means your judgment carries weight, your name is on the work, and you're not waiting three levels for a decision. You will meet clients from the start. You will be part of building something much bigger than just your career. You'll help shape what this firm becomes over the next ten years. How we work Clients belong to the firm, not to individuals. You'd be the primary point of contact for the clients you serve — the person they call, the person who knows their situation — but the relationship is backed by the whole team. Practically, that means real coverage when you're out, no client left stranded when someone's buried in October, and the flexibility to move work to whoever is best positioned to do it. If you're looking to build and protect a personal book, this isn't that firm. If you love being part of a team, you're in the right spot. The role You'll serve as the lead on a portfolio of business and individual clients: reviewing returns, planning ahead of year-end, handling notices and exams, and being the person clients call when something changes. You'll also review and develop preparers on our team. You report directly to the partners and have real say in how the work gets done. What you'll do Review federal, Alabama and multistate returns across 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041, 709 and 706 Lead year-end and multi-year planning — entity structure, S-corp elections, compensation and distribution planning, estimated payments and withholding Advise on Alabama and multistate compliance: business privilege tax, sales and use tax, nexus and SSUT, business licenses, business personal property and ad valorem, 1099 and W-2 reporting Represent clients on IRS and Alabama Department of Revenue notices and exams Review preparers' work and coach them — give feedback that makes the next return better Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for your clients: be reachable, set expectations, and keep the partners in the loop Manage deadlines, budgets and realization on the engagements you lead Spot the planning opportunity the client didn't ask about, and raise it What we're looking for Active CPA license (Alabama, or eligible for reciprocity) 7+ years in public accounting, including 2+ years with review and signature responsibility Depth in pass-through and individual taxation for closely held businesses Able to explain complex things to clients in plain English — and to say "I don't know yet, let me confirm" Sound judgment on when a position needs research, a second set of eyes, or a conversation with the partner Someone who works well on a shared book: communicates clearly, documents as they go, and leaves a client file the next person can pick up Experience with UltraTax, TaxDome, and QuickBooks Online is a strong plus — we'll train the right person on our stack What your first year looks like You'll start by taking over an existing group of clients rather than building from scratch. Expect your first busy season to be about learning the book and our review standards; by the fall you should be driving planning conversations on your own. If business development interests you, there's room for that — if it doesn't, this role doesn't require it. What we offer Competitive salary, plus bonuses (yes, more than one) tied to both individual performance and firm profitability Office hours Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 Competitive benefits including health insurance and 401(k) with match CPA license fees and CPE covered A firm small enough that your judgment matters and large enough to have real depth behind you To apply Send a résumé through Indeed. A few sentences about the kind of clients you work with today is more useful to us than a cover letter. Titus CPAs is an equal opportunity employer.
