This role is also responsible for maintaining accurate fixed asset records and supporting additional accounting functions and projects as assigned by the Controller.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the preparation, review, and filing of multi-state sales and use tax, personal and real property tax, local business taxes, business licenses, and other applicable state and local tax filings, ensuring timely and accurate compliance Monitor state and local tax requirements across jurisdictions in which the company operates, including changes that may affect retail stores, distribution operations, corporate functions, or other business activities Evaluate sales and use tax nexus and filing requirements as the company expands operations, enters new markets, or changes its business activities Maintain and monitor applicable state and local tax registrations, permits, exemption certificates, and filing requirements. Collaborate with senior management to develop tax-efficient strategies and advise on the tax implications of business decisions (including mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings) Provide support for internal and external audits across all tax areas (income, sales/use, property), ensuring accurate documentation and communication with auditors, business units, customers, third-party consultants, and state auditors. Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements within the Indirect Tax department to enhance operational efficiency and mitigate compliance risks Conduct thorough tax research and document tax positions to uncover opportunities for tax savings, minimize risks, and ensure compliance Lead the fixed asset accounting function, including reviewing capital expenditures, placing assets into service, preparing month-end journal entries, calculating depreciation, and conducting variance analysis Other accounting functions and tasks may be assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field 5+ years of tax accounting experience with emphasis in compliance, provision, reporting and audit in medium to large size companies At least 2 year of experience in Sales and Use Tax or Property Tax in a multi-jurisdictional environment In-depth technical knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax laws Strong technical literacy, particularly with advance-level proficiency in Excel and high proficiency in ERP systems Effective communicator, both verbal and written Great interpersonal skills and able to work with all levels of the organization Problem solver, able to multi-task and work independently with minimum supervision Certified Public Accountant is preferred Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment We are committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities.
