About the Role As a Tax Manager at Tandem Advisors, you will lead and manage multiple individual and business engagements to deliver quality tax and accounting services for our clients, while helping shape the firm's overall tax goals. You will serve as a primary point of contact for clients — managing budgets and production goals, building new relationships, and providing business, advisory, and tax consulting — and you will train, supervise, review, and develop staff, contributing to a collaborative culture of professionalism and excellence in customer service. This is an exempt position reporting to the firm's partners, working closely with staff accountants, administrative team members, and clients. Client Management Manage multiple clients, budgets, and production goals. Provide general business, advisory, and tax consulting for clients. Build new client relationships and demonstrate basic knowledge of clients' businesses. Meet with clients and analyze client records of income and expenses in order to get a complete picture of financial situation. Analyze business client financial statements and records to make any necessary tax adjustments. Communicate (both in verbal and written form) with clients, colleagues, staff, and partners to obtain information required to consult and prepare tax returns. Prepare invoices for tax return preparation, consulting, and other projects using company guidelines, prior year tax invoices, current year budgeted invoice, and time-keeping records as guidance. Meet with clients to consult, deliver tax returns, and discuss tax planning opportunities and areas of concern. Train and supervise staff; review and evaluate their work. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to company policies and procedures with respect to privacy and protection of personal information. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment by supporting team members and fostering a culture of professionalism and excellence in customer service. Tax Manage all aspects of tax engagements, including client interviews, preparation, review, consulting, and return delivery. Prepare tax returns according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations. Analyze client records of income and expenses in order to get a complete picture of financial situation. Analyze business client financial statements and records to make any necessary tax adjustments. Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, businesses, trusts, estates, and exempt organizations according to prescribed laws and regulations. Have general knowledge of payroll and sales and use tax returns. Prepare and review gift and estate tax returns. Prepare estimated federal and state income tax payments. Bring areas of concern to management and conduct tax research as needed. Keep abreast of current developments in the area of tax law. Research and prepare work papers for book to tax differences. Research tax law, regulations, rulings, and case law for complex tax situations. Prepare tax planning scenarios utilizing tax research and tax planning software, and discuss implementation of tax planning strategies with clients. Answer questions of and provide guidance to staff. Handle all aspects of tax resolution, including communication and representation regarding federal, state, and local tax notices or tax audits. Client Accounting & Bookkeeping Assist clients with the entity set-up procedures for new businesses. Onboard new client bookkeeping engagements and review recurring bookkeeping engagements. Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses. Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare adjusting journal entries to ensure client financial statements are accurate and complete. Provide guidance and training to clients regarding their accounting systems. Prepare workpapers requested by external auditors for clients.Required Skills:
Education Bachelor's degree is required. Advanced degree is preferred. Active Colorado CPA license is required. Experience 5+ years tax experience is required. Minimum 2 years tax review and supervisory experience is required. Technical Skills Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and internet browsers) is required. Experience with Lacerte or similar tax software is required. Proficiency with QuickBooks is required. QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor is a plus. Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat is required. General software and computer hardware skills are required. Proficiency in tax research is required. Competencies & Soft Skills Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
