Job Description

About the PositionThe Tax Manager serves as a trusted advisor to clients and a key leader within the firm's tax department. This position works closely with Partners, Supervisors, Senior Accountants, and Staff Accountants to oversee tax compliance, planning, consulting, and client service activities. The Tax Manager manages a diverse client portfolio, provides technical expertise on complex tax matters, supervises and develops team members, and contributes to the strategic growth of the firm.

This role is ideal for an experienced tax professional with extensive public accounting experience who is passionate about client service, team leadership, and delivering proactive tax planning solutions that create value for clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, fiduciaries, nonprofit organizations, and other entities.
  • Oversee multiple tax engagements simultaneously while ensuring accuracy, quality, profitability, and timely completion.
  • Provide advanced tax planning, consulting, and advisory services to clients throughout the year.
  • Research and analyze complex tax issues, regulations, and legislation and communicate findings to clients and firm personnel.
  • Develop and implement tax-saving strategies and planning opportunities tailored to client objectives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients, building and maintaining strong long-term relationships.
  • Review work prepared by Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants, and interns, providing coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback.
  • Assist in the development, supervision, training, and performance management of tax department personnel.
  • Collaborate with Partners on client service initiatives, business development efforts, and firm growth strategies.
  • Represent clients before taxing authorities and assist with IRS, state, and local tax examinations, notices, and inquiries.
  • Review tax projections, estimated tax calculations, and extension filings.
  • Monitor engagement budgets, realization, and workflow to ensure efficient project management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve firm processes, technology utilization, and service delivery.
  • Stay current on changes in federal, state, and local tax laws and ensure compliance with professional standards.
  • Participate in networking activities, community involvement, and business development efforts to strengthen client relationships and support firm growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Partners. Qualifications
  • 5-8+ years of public accounting tax experience required.
  • CPA or EA license preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and tax planning strategies.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing professional staff.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and research software, including CCH Axcess or similar platforms.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical, research, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex tax matters clearly and professionally.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commitment to client service, accuracy, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Pay:
$95,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
