We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager / Senior Tax Reviewer who can bring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and confidence in reviewing and signing complex business and individual tax returns. This is an opportunity for an experienced tax professional who enjoys being close to the work, clients, and decision-making without getting lost in the layers of a large firm. The Role You will serve as one of the firm's senior tax resources, reviewing and signing individual and business tax returns, advising clients on complex tax matters, and providing guidance to the professionals preparing returns. You'll work closely with the firm's partners and have meaningful responsibility for the quality of the work leaving the firm. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the technical side of tax but also values client relationships, mentoring colleagues, and being part of a collaborative local firm. What You'll Do
- Review, proof, and sign individual and business tax returns as a paid preparer including: Multi-state Nonresident Pass-Through K-1s C corporation (Form 1120) S corporation (Form 1120-S) Nonprofit (Form 990) Fiduciary Trust (Form 1041) Partnership (Form 1065) returns
- Serve as a final technical reviewer, identifying errors, compliance concerns, and potential tax-planning opportunities
- Provide practical, constructive guidance to tax preparers and help strengthen quality and consistency across the team
- Work directly with individual and business clients on tax planning, projections, estimated payments, and year-round questions
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, including compilation and review engagements
- Familiarity with peer review requirements and quality standards applicable to compilation and review services
- Research complex federal and state tax matters
- Assist clients with IRS and Massachusetts Department of Revenue notices and inquiries
- Explain tax positions and recommendations to clients in clear, understandable language
- Stay current on changes to federal and state tax laws and help translate those changes into action for the firm and its clients
- Partner closely with firm leadership on client matters and tax strategy What You Bring
- Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, with a valid PTIN and ability to sign returns
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally in public accounting
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns
- Deep knowledge of federal, Massachusetts, multi-state, partnership, and pass-through taxation
- Experience reviewing work prepared by others and providing clear, constructive guidance
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- Proficiency with professional tax software and Excel
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high-volume workload during tax season
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with clients
- Experience with tax planning and, ideally, representing clients before the IRS or Massachusetts DOR Schedule Full-time, in-office, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Additional hours are expected during tax season (January-April) and around extension deadlines, with flexible/reduced offseason hours (e.g. half-days on Fridays). Benefits
