An International Tax Experienced Manager is responsible for advising clients of the tax implications relating to their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, as well as identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. In this role, the Experienced Manager will be charged with marketing, networking and business development within area of experience and specialization and recognizing potential changes in tax policy and applying new policies to tax compliance and planning.
Job Duties:
Tax ConsultingAssists clients and BDO client service teams in developing ideas, structures, and transactions - with a focus on international mattersInterprets existing and new laws, along with client facts, to maximize client benefits and identifies needs for other expert resources, internal and external, to assist where necessaryCoordinates with foreign BDO officesUnderstands, develops, and maintains workplans for tax consulting projectsIdentifies financial reporting and cash tax impact of various consulting engagementsApplies basic knowledge and understanding of transfer pricing and foreign tax regimesCoordinates completion of any compliance/reporting requirements with client service teams created through consulting engagementsAssists in managing client expectationsTax SpecializationApplies an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical international tax issues and opportunities and explores specializing in one or more international tax areasOrganizes and conducts effective internal CPE training sessions in the area of specializationDevelops knowledge base of and personal network with professionals in selected foreign jurisdictionsResearchIdentifies complex situations when research is necessary providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conductedAnalyzes researched facts and the sources utilized prior to composing a detailed report of the research findingsPrepares Written Tax Advice (WTA) and confers with National Tax Office, as appropriateTax ComplianceAssists in managing client engagementsAssists in conducting detailed review of international tax aspects of U.S. tax reporting and other client supplied data and identifies basic issues throughout the engagementApplies an in-depth knowledge of U.S. tax compliance and other filing requirements as they relate to a client's international operations, structures and transactionsUnderstands and applies Firm policies, standards and manuals regarding tax accounting matters and can review and coordinate reviews of tax accounting matters related to a client's international activitiesTax ControversyRepresents clients before the IRS as appropriate and with assistance and guidance from senior international tax professionalsASC 740-10Applies standards, Firm policies and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirementsAssists in reviewing international aspects of tax provisions including coordination of BDO colleagues in non-US jurisdictionsTrains others in technical tax, ASC740, software, research and other tax mattersOther duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the day-to-day workload of International Tax Senior Associates and Associates and Interns on assigned engagements and reviews work product and ensures their technical developmentDelivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for International Tax Senior Associates and Associates and InternsActs as mentor to International Tax Senior Associates and Associates and Interns, as appropriate
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelor's degree, requiredFocus in Accounting, preferredJ. D., LLM, and/or MST/MBT, preferred
Experience:
Six (6) or more years of prior experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services, or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree program, requiredExperience in International Tax, requiredPrior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required
License/Certifications:
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA") (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required
