Executive Succession Track H&B Premier Tax & Accounting is seeking an experienced, business-minded CPA for our Chapel Hill practice. This position is uniquely structured around a planned multi-year executive succession. Working alongside established practice leadership and executive directors, the successful candidate will systematically absorb an existing, high-value client portfolio and assume full operational and technical directorship of the Chapel Hill office. Key Responsibilities Tax Compliance & Review:
Lead, review, and finalize complex federal, state, and multi-state tax filings, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, and 990. Client Accounting Services (CAS): Oversee full-cycle CAS workflows—including monthly and quarterly closes, general ledger reconciliations, payroll coordination, sales tax compliance, and financial statement compilation in QuickBooks Online. Attest & Small Audit Engagements (Plus): Direct or assist with small audits, reviews, and compilations for closely held private businesses and non-profit organizations.
Client Advisory & Representation:
Serve as the year-round primary advisor for business owners, delivering entity structuring and proactive planning; draft tax research memoranda and represent clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities.
Succession & Practice Leadership:
Actively shadow outgoing senior leadership to transition key accounts; oversee workflow scheduling, engagement budgeting, and mentor junior tax associates and CAS staff.
Required Qualifications Professional Licensure:
Active, in-good-standing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (North Carolina or active reciprocity eligibility).
Professional Experience:
6+ years of progressive public accounting experience with substantial hands-on tax review and CAS management responsibility.
Technical Competence:
Deep proficiency across flow-through entities, corporate filings, high-net-worth individual taxation, and multi-state compliance.
Client Ownership:
Demonstrated track record of independently managing client relationships and communicating complex tax concepts clearly to business owners.
Career Focus:
Demonstrated commitment to a long-term succession horizon, practice directorship, and eventual firm ownership.
Prior experience leading or participating in small audits, reviews, compilations, or not-for-profit attest engagements.
Tax & Accounting Stack:
Working proficiency with Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite (UltraTax CS, Practice CS, Workpaper CS), CCH Axcess, and QuickBooks Online.
Workflow Systems:
Experience standardizing paperless document management and implementing digital client intake systems.
