Job Description

About the firm Tortolano & Company is a full-service firm with offices on the New Hampshire Seacoast and Northern Vermont. We work with small businesses, individuals and health care providers across New England and the US. We're structured that you'll talk to clients in your first month and see a return from start to finish. We're structured enough that you won't be figuring it out alone.
Position:
Review, not just preparation: You'll be a primary reviewer on individual, partnership, S-corp, C-corp, and fiduciary returns.
Client relationships:
You'll gradually become the main point of contact on planning, questions, and the annual conversation about what the numbers actually mean.
Planning work:
Entity structuring, reasonable compensation analysis, S-corp elections, basis and distribution planning, succession and multi-state and nexus questions, and fixed asset/depreciation strategy.
Notice and exam representation:
IRS and state correspondence, and representation on examinations.
Staff development:
Assist with assigning work, reviewing with teaching comments rather than just corrections, and helping one or two people become the accountants they're trying to be.
Requirements:
  • Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent credential
  • 5-8 years of public accounting experience, with at least two years reviewing others' work
  • Demonstrated ability to take a return or engagement from unclear facts to a defensible position, and to write down the reasoning
  • Comfort managing a book of clients with limited oversight — you'll be told what needs to happen, not how to schedule your week
  • Strong QuickBooks and Excel skills; general facility with professional tax and workflow software
  • Direct, clear communication with clients and staff, including the conversations nobody enjoys
  • New Hampshire BPT/BET and Vermont, Massachusetts or Maine multi-state exposure
Benefits:
Health Insurance, dental insurance, 401(k), paid time off, paid holidays, flexible schedules, casual, well-structured environment.
To apply:
Reply with a resume and a short note/cover letter about what you're looking for.
