I'm working with a 25 person CPA firm that's growing and looking for a Senior Manager to take ownership of its tax department. It's a good opportunity if you've reached the point where you want more influence without necessarily wanting the hours or layers that can come with a larger firm. The existing client base is primarily individuals and local businesses, with an opportunity to develop the practice further into corporate and state tax work. They're also open to someone who enjoys business development, with additional compensation available for bringing clients into the firm. One of the biggest attractions here is probably the lifestyle. Peak tax season is typically around 45 to 50 hours a week. The firm has had people move across from larger firms specifically for a better balance, including people who wanted to be able to pick their kids up from school and have a fairly normal life alongside public accounting. It's a small firm, so the Partners are around and accessible. There isn't a huge hierarchy to work through, and they're flexible around how people work and what they need outside the office. Benefits include PTO, medical, dental, and vision insurance, alongside an annual HSA contribution. There's also life insurance, an EAP and 9 paid holidays, & more. CPA is required for this particular position. They're flexible on exact background and compensation for someone who has the experience to take ownership of the tax side. If you're doing well where you are, this probably isn't about escaping something bad. It's about whether you could have more say in what you're building, without public accounting taking quite so much of your life in return. If you're just browsing the job boards and you haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. You can give me a call first on 312-564-5028. If you prefer, you could drop me a connection or message on LinkedIn (Lucy Weibel at Distinct), and we can pick things up there. If you've read this advert and you're unsure whether to apply because you don't have every bit of experience listed, I'd still encourage you to apply. We support the CPA firms we partner with in building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces, and the right attitude often goes further than ticking every box. If this position isn't quite right, it's highly likely I'll be working on another Public Accounting opportunity that is.
