I'm working with an independent CPA firm in Plano, TX that's looking for an experienced Tax professional. Someone who still wants to be hands on with clients and technical tax work, but is ready for real exposure to leadership, advisory and the way the practice actually runs. For the right person, Partnership is genuinely on the table here. There's no fixed timeline and nothing that feels like a box ticking exercise. What you get is more time in front of the people running the firm, broader responsibility, and a clear sense of what it would take to move into a longer term leadership role. So what's different about this one? Your value isn't measured by returns reviewed and deadlines hit. You'll own client relationships year round, get pulled into planning and advisory conversations, and have real input on how clients are served. You'll be working alongside leadership on the things that start to matter once you're past
Manager:
developing people, making judgement calls on client service, understanding how the business side of the firm operates, and having a voice in where it goes next. It's still a hands on tax role at its core. You just get more room to show what else you can do. The role You'll manage a mixed portfolio spanning individuals, partnerships, S Corps and C Corps. Reviewing engagements, leading client communication throughout the year, and offering practical tax advice alongside compliance work. You'll partner with leadership on planning and advisory projects, keep workflow on track across your engagements, and make sure clients and your team know what's coming. Mentoring junior staff is a big piece of this too, helping them build technical skills and confidence working directly with clients. As you get settled, there's room to take on more in team development, client service strategy and the wider direction of the practice. Who fits this? 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, with a solid grounding in both individual and business taxation. CPA or EA required. You should already be comfortable owning client relationships, making sound technical calls, juggling competing priorities, and helping newer staff grow. This is worth a conversation if you still like public accounting, but don't want the next few years to be another round of reviews and busy seasons with no clearer sense of where it leads. Maybe you're already carrying more responsibility and wondering where that effort is going. Maybe Partnership keeps coming up but nobody's told you what it would actually take. Or maybe you just want your judgement and client relationships to carry more weight with the people making decisions. This isn't about another Tax Manager title. It's about having somewhere worth going after it.
