Job Description

Tax Manager | Portland, Maine You may have noticed that public accounting has changed. Private equity money is flooding in. Mergers everywhere. Firms that once called themselves regional now have offices in five time zones. This one is different. You'll join a firm that is fiercely independent. Big enough to have the reach and resources, but small enough that every hire still shapes their culture. They have turned down acquisition offers more times than they can count. The next generation of leaders is already in place. The plan is continuity, not to cash out, so you won't be dragged through merger after merger. They use CCH Axcess, fully cloud based. Busy season is around 55 hours a week. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the whole firm moves to a 4 day week, 32 hours total. Benefits include strong health coverage, 401k match, FSA/HSA options, around 4 weeks PTO that grows with tenure, and leadership that genuinely believes quality of life matters. They are just shy of 60 people, bringing in about $12M a year, with one main office in Portland and a handful of remote staff across Maine and beyond. A partner here works entirely remotely, 20 minutes from the office, and it works perfectly. Flexibility is not a buzzword, it's just how they operate. They are looking for a Tax Manager, ideally with a book of business, but it is not a dealbreaker. Maybe you are already a Manager and looking for somewhere you can genuinely grow into ownership one day.
