Job Description

Tax Manager | Amarillo | $120k to $140k 5+ Years Public Accounting + CPA or EA Required Some CPA firms sell work-life balance because they finish at 7pm instead of 9pm. This firm does more, they actually mean it when they say they offer good work-lige balance. They've been around since the 1970s, have a loyal local client base and just over 30 people in the firm. Five Partners. Small enough that you'll actually know who everyone is, but established enough that you're not joining something held together by one very stressed Partner and an Excel spreadsheet. The work is varied too. Agriculture, oil and gas, real estate, small businesses. You'll spend most of your time reviewing S Corps and Partnerships, helping clients with tax consulting, doing a little more complex prep when needed and managing a small team. And importantly, this isn't one of those Manager jobs where the next step is permanently described as "something we can discuss in the future." If you want Partner, there's a route there. If you're happy being a really good Manager for a while, that's fine too. They're not trying to force everyone into the same career plan. Busy season is usually around 45 to 50 hours. Anything over 40 can either come back to you as extra PTO or be paid out as an end of year bonus. Which feels a little more reasonable than simply calling the extra hours "part of the journey." Benefits include: 100% medical, dental and vision 401(k) Life insurance Gym membership Busy season perks, including a 30 minute massage You'll need 5+ years of public accounting experience and your CPA or EA. If you're curious but nowhere near "actively looking", that's probably the best time to have a conversation anyway. Call me on 512 647 2214. I'll tell you what the firm is actually like, what the role involves and whether I think it genuinely makes sense for you. No sales pitch. No pressure to send a resume. Just a proper conversation.
