Tax Manager | Frisco, TX | $125,000 to $160,000 "There could be a path to Partner" is one of the most overused lines in public accounting hiring. Most of the time, nobody can actually tell you what that path looks like. By the time you're at Tax Manager, the technical side isn't really in question anymore. You can review complex work, hit deadlines, manage client relationships and support your junior staff without much oversight. What matters now is what comes next, and whether anyone's willing to spell it out. I'm working with an established, independent mid market CPA firm in Frisco, TX, with three offices across Texas, that's looking for a Tax Manager who genuinely wants to build toward Partner and understands what that actually takes. This isn't a "something might open up eventually" conversation. You'll get a clear picture of what the firm values, where you can add the most, and how your role expands as you take on more. You'll still be close enough to the technical work to keep those skills sharp, but the role goes well beyond reviewing files and hitting deadlines. Expect more ownership of client relationships, more involvement in planning and advisory work, a bigger hand in developing your team, and real input into how the practice runs day to day. You'll work directly with senior leadership and start getting exposure to the commercial side of the business: how clients are won, how teams are built, and how the firm keeps growing. None of that goes unnoticed here. It's not just the technical output that counts, it's how you lead clients, develop people, improve service and add value across the firm. Day to day You'll review complex individual and business tax work, own client relationships year round, support planning and advisory engagements, and coach less experienced staff along the way. Who this suits At least five years of public accounting tax experience, with strong individual and business tax knowledge, and the confidence to manage clients independently. CPA required. Worth a conversation if you already feel capable of more than your current role lets you show. Maybe you want more influence over decisions. Maybe you want real visibility into how a CPA firm is actually run. Or maybe you just want a straight answer on what it takes to move past Manager.
