Tax Manager - Houston Valley CFO Inc Houston, TX Job Details Full-time $100,000 - $150,000 a year 15 hours ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off Work from home Flexible schedule Retirement plan Qualifications CPA English Mentoring Accounting firm experience QuickBooks Enrolled Agent Full Job Description This seat exists because we have more quality clients than we can serve. We're a Portland-based firm growing faster than our team can take on — and we're selective about who we add. If you've spent years preparing returns at a firm where April is a death march and clients treat you like a commodity, this is a different world.
Our model:
clients pay a flat monthly fee. We keep their books all year. Tax season is the output of work already done — not a scramble. No one on our team worked overtime last tax season. Not one person. We Will Train You to Be a Tax Strategist. Most CPAs are trained to report taxes. We train our people to reduce them. You will receive dedicated training on proactive tax strategy — the kind that lowers your clients' actual tax bills, not just files their returns accurately. Entity structure optimization, timing strategies, compensation planning, cost segregation, retirement vehicles, and more. You'll learn to identify the opportunities most preparers walk right past. This is how we deliver real value to business owners — and it's how you become the kind of advisor clients never leave. What You'll Actually Own This isn't a seat in a return-factory. You are the relationship. You are the advisor. Your clients — mostly S-corps, partnerships, and their owners — will call you when the IRS sends a letter, when they want to know if they should buy the building, when they're thinking about adding a partner. You'll handle the full picture: Prepare and review federal and state returns: 1120-S, 1065, 1040, 1041 Serve as primary contact for your book — tax planning, projections, quarterly estimates, notices, real-world owner questions Collaborate with our bookkeeping and payroll team on year-end close, book-to-tax adjustments, and clean trial balances Advise owners on entity structure, reasonable compensation, and multi-state considerations Review staff work and mentor junior preparers as the role grows Help us keep getting better — workflow, software, client experience Growth is real here. People who take ownership move up fast. If you're ready to lead engagements and review other preparers' work, that path is open now. If you're a strong senior who wants to get there, we'll build it together. Who This Is For Active CPA license (EA considered for the right experience) 3+ years in public accounting — closely-held businesses, pass-through entities You speak plain English to business owners, not tax jargon Organized, self-directed, comfortable managing a remote book of clients
Bonus :
UltraTax, QuickBooks Online, multi-state experience, prior remote work What We Offer Fully remote — Portland home base, in-person optional Base + incentive pay tied to the book you manage — you grow it, you earn more Dedicated tax strategy training — we invest in turning you into a strategist, not just a preparer No required overtime. Ever . Our monthly model makes it structurally impossible Real upward mobility — we promote from within because we're growing Health insurance, retirement plan + match, PTO, CPE reimbursement, license fees covered A small team where your voice changes how we operate How to Apply To apply for this position, please submit your application via this link: https://valley-cfo.com/apply and select the Tax Manager/CPA (Tigard, Oregon) position from the Job Opening drop-down menu.
