Job Description
Overview Celanese is currently seeking a Senior Manager to join its Tax team. The position will report to the Senior Director, International Tax and Planning to support the Celanese Finance and Business teams. The Celanese Tax team is comprised of approximately 80 individuals globally. The Tax Planning function within Celanese is active and provides a unique opportunity to learn and grow your tax planning experience while participating in a dynamic and challenging environment. As Sr. Manager, you will be responsible for taking a leadership role on tax planning initiatives to optimize the organization's overall tax position. This will include the development of tax planning strategies and working with internal stakeholders and external advisors to drive to successful completion. Responsibilities Collaborate with the Sr. Tax Director in planning and implementing projects to drive the company's initiative and global effective tax rate; US and international tax planning (reorganizations, NCTI, Subpart F, FTC, transfer pricing, etc.); Local country planning; Assisting outside advisors, as needed, with obtaining information to evaluate and model planning initiatives; Review of deliverables from advisors to ensure company objectives are met; Evaluate alternative strategic planning ideas/options and make recommendations to the Sr. Tax Director and Vice President Tax; Make tactical decisions on project execution and manage external tax and legal advisors to drive successful project completion; Organize the company's multi-functional finance and legal processes to propose, approve and execute finance initiatives, including; Organizing and scheduling feasibility meetings for projects raised in bi-weekly organizational meetings; Drive tax technical research and analysis related to both projects initiated by tax team and tax-related analysis for projects raised by other areas in the company; Maintaining project log and ranking log based on meeting input; Preparing documentation for SOX control purposes; Manage tax aspects of M&A projects; Lead coordination among Tax, Legal, and Finance organizations for tax-related issues; Prepare documentation of tax positions and technical reasoning related to projects; Preparation and maintenance of Gain Recognition Agreements related to projects; Assisting Tax Provision and Tax Compliance teams with matters related to planning initiatives Preparation of key SOX documentation and memorandums for quarterly and annual provision calculations; Review of portions of annual tax compliance as required - Forms 5471, 1118, statements, elections, etc.; Audit support related to areas of responsibility. Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Accounting and/or J.D., advanced degree (e.g. Masters in Taxation or LLM in Taxation), and license preferred; 7+ years of International progressive tax planning, compliance and provision experience in a multi-national environment, Big 4 and/or law firm experience is a plus; Attention to detail and project management skills are a must; "Hands-on" personality with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work both in the details and strategically; Ability to actively team and collaborate with entire tax team; Ability to effectively communicate project status and escalation points to senior tax management; Ability to work autonomously, or as a team, in a fast-paced environment; Ability to actively team and collaborate with finance and legal teams on company initiatives Ability to form relationships in the greater organization as part of project management and validation; Ability to clearly and concisely communicate tax concepts to company personnel in finance, legal, and other parts of the organization; and Knowledge of ERP systems is a plus.
