We are seeking an experienced T ax Manager with a deep technical background in one or more specialized areas of taxation for our Salt Lake City or Orem, Utah location. This team focuses on complex tax matters, including transactions, tax provisions, international tax, sophisticated partnership structures, state and local tax (SALT), trust and estate taxation, and other highly specialized technical work. Success in this role requires more than broad tax knowledge—it requires recognized expertise in a niche area and the ability to solve complex client issues. An ideal candidate brings a unique combination of public accounting and industry experience, with a demonstrated track record of handling highly technical tax matters. We are especially interested in professionals who have developed specialized expertise that can strengthen and expand our practice areas.
Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts. Collaborate with clients to develop tax strategies that align with their financial objectives, mitigate tax liabilities, and maximize opportunities for tax savings. Provide proactive advice on various tax matters, including state and local, estate planning, and sophisticaed individual income tax issues as well as entity structuring, mergers and acquisitions, and international taxation. Follow evolving tax laws, regulations, and rulings to provide informed guidance to clients and internal stakeholders. Conduct thorough research and analysis on tax issues to address client inquiries and support decision-making processes. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients by serving as a trusted advisor and understand their unique needs, objectives, and challenges to deliver tailored solutions and exceptional client service. Mentor and coach junior staff members, providing guidance on technical matters, professional development, and best practices in tax compliance and consulting. Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment conducive to continuous learning and growth. Implement and uphold rigorous quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of tax engagements. Identify and mitigate potential risks, compliance issues, and ethical concerns in accordance with professional standards and firm policies. Drive business development efforts by identifying and pursuing new client opportunities, cultivating prospective client and referral-source relationships, participating in networking and industry events, and contributing to proposals, presentations, and other initiatives that support the firm's growth.
Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master's degree in Accounting or related field CPA license 8+ years of experience in tax compliance and consulting within a public accounting firm and industry is highly valued Deep technical expertise in one or more specialty areas, such as: International tax Tax provisions (ASC 740) M&A and transaction advisory Complex partnership taxation State and Local Tax (SALT) Trust and estate taxation Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystemfx Tax, UltraTax,) Microsoft Excel and AI tools. ( CCH Axcess preferred ) Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple engagements concurrently. Recognized as a technical resource who can mentor others and help build or expand a specialized practice area. Brings a unique skill set that differentiates them from generalist tax professionals and adds strategic value to the firm.
