Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager - Public to join a client-focused accounting team in Waynesboro, Virginia. This role is ideal for a tax specialist who can oversee complex tax engagements, strengthen client relationships, and provide practical guidance on planning and compliance matters. The position offers the opportunity to lead key tax activities, support staff development, and help drive consistent, high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a broad portfolio of tax engagements, ensuring work is completed accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by providing thoughtful guidance on tax planning, consulting matters, and filing strategies tailored to their business needs.
  • Review complex corporate and income tax returns, offering recommendations that support compliance while uncovering planning opportunities.
  • Evaluate potential tax exposure and develop practical approaches to reduce risk and address emerging issues proactively.
  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate accounting and tax staff by assigning work, monitoring progress, and providing performance feedback.
  • Direct the tax compliance and provision process, maintaining strong controls and consistent execution across reporting cycles.
  • Enhance departmental effectiveness by identifying workflow improvements and implementing best practices that increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage tax examinations and audit-related activity, including preparation, documentation, and communication with relevant parties.
  • Monitor tax-related general ledger activity and ensure balances are properly maintained and reconciled.
  • Prepare tax documentation on a recurring basis and respond to financial and tax information requests in a timely manner.
