We are a rapidly growing small accounting firm based in Fairfax, VA, seeking a dependable and professional to join our team. About the Role The Tax Manager owns the technical review process across the firm's tax practice and serves as the primary reviewer of tax returns, workpapers, and client deliverables prepared by staff. This role is responsible for maintaining high standards of technical accuracy and quality, mentoring and developing team members, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients on complex tax matters.
Key responsibilities include:
Tax Return Review and Quality Control
  • Review individual, business, and other tax returns for technical accuracy, completeness, compliance, and overall quality. Complex Tax Return Preparation
  • Prepare and assist with complex tax returns and transactions that require advanced technical knowledge and judgment. Client Communication and Advisory
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding tax matters, planning opportunities, notices, and complex tax issues. Accounting Services Support
  • Provide tax-related guidance and technical support to the firm's accounting and advisory teams. Staff Mentoring and Development
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior and senior staff to improve quality, efficiency, and professional development. Tax Research and Compliance
  • Research and interpret federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations and apply findings to client situations and firm procedures.
What You Need to Succeed Strong work ethic and professional integrity Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion Strong multitasking, prioritization, and time-management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Commitment to providing high-quality client service
Preferred Candidates:
Active CPA or EA license Self-starter with a positive attitude and strong work ethic 5-8 years of public accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a tax review or supervisory capacity Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax compliance for individuals, S corporations, C corporations, and partnerships Experience managing multiple tax engagements and consistently meeting deadlines during busy season Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and develop staff Why Join Us?
