Job Description

Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Manager to lead tax planning, compliance, and consulting for a diverse portfolio of clients. The successful candidate will manage tax engagements from preparation through review, mentor and supervise staff, and serve as a primary client contact for complex issues. This role suits an experienced public accounting professional CPA preferred with strong technical knowledge across individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations.

Key ResponsibilitiesOversee preparation, review, and timely filing of federal and state tax returns for individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations.

Provide tax planning, research, and consulting services to minimize client tax liabilities and manage compliance risk.

Manage multiple client engagements, ensuring work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and to firm quality standards.

Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff; conduct performance reviews and support professional development.

Maintain and strengthen client relationships by serving as primary contact and delivering clear, proactive communication on tax matters.

Coordinate and review tax provisions and filings related to transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations.

Stay current on tax law changes and industry developments; prepare client advisories and internal guidance as needed.

Oversee tax software workflows and ensure effective use of technology and automation tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Collaborate with audit and advisory teams to deliver integrated client services and resolve tax-related issues.

Participate in business development activities, including proposals, client pitches, and networking to grow the practice.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters degree or MS Tax preferred.

CPA license required or CPA candidate with commitment to obtain licensure in a specified timeframe.

Minimum 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting with a broad client mix (individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, S corps, C corps).Deep technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements.

Proven supervisory experience, including training and mentoring staff and managing engagement teams.

Strong tax research and writing skills; ability to synthesize complex rules into clear client recommendations.

Proficiency with tax preparation and research software (for example, Lacerte, UltraTax/TaxCycle, ProSystem fx) and familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks.

Excellent client-facing, communication, and interpersonal skills with a track record of building client trust.

Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
