Job Description

Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our tax compliance and consulting services. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of individual and business tax returns, provide tax planning and research, manage a team of tax professionals, and ensure timely, accurate filing and excellent client service. This role requires strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax rules, excellent review and preparation skills, and proven leadership in a busy public accounting or corporate tax environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the tax departments workflow, ensuring on-time delivery of tax engagements and adherence to firm standards.

Prepare, review, and finalize individual, partnership, S-corporation, and corporate tax returns; ensure accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.

Supervise, mentor, and train staff accountants, delegating tasks and conducting thorough review of workpapers and tax returns.

Conduct complex tax research and develop tax-efficient strategies for clients; communicate implications and recommendations clearly.

Coordinate tax planning and projections for clients and internal stakeholders; identify opportunities to minimize tax liabilities.

Maintain client relationships: serve as primary contact for tax-related questions, represent clients in discussions with tax authorities, and manage expectations.

Implement process improvements and quality control procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax preparation and review.

Ensure compliance with filing deadlines, extensions, and required documentation; prepare and review tax provisions and disclosures as needed.

Utilize tax software and accounting systems to prepare and review returns and maintain accurate client records.

Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, proposals, and presentations when needed.

QualificationsCPA license required; Active CPA preferred.5+ years of progressive tax experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial Tax Manager role, ideally in public accounting or large corporate tax department.

Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing individual and entity tax returns (individual, partnership, S-corp, C-corp).Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and tax research skills.

Proven ability to prepare and review complex tax returns and tax provisions accurately under deadline pressure.

Excellent leadership, coaching, and staff development skills; experience managing workflow and delegating tasks.

Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Lacerte, UltraTax, or equivalent), Excel, and common accounting systems.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong client service orientation.

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus.

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple engagements and competing deadlines.
