Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join our public accounting team in Madison, Wisconsin. This position plays a central role in guiding complex tax engagements, advising both business and individual clients, and helping ensure the department delivers high-quality work on schedule. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax knowledge, leadership capability, and a client-focused approach that supports long-term relationships and continued firm growth.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct the preparation and final review of a broad range of business and individual tax filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Advise clients on tax planning strategies, technical issues, and practical solutions by conducting research and translating findings into clear recommendations.
  • Oversee daily tax department operations, including assignment flow, due dates, budgets, invoicing, and effective use of team capacity.
  • Supervise, coach, and assess tax professionals to strengthen technical skills, accountability, and overall team performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and referral sources while identifying opportunities to expand services and support business development efforts.
  • Keep leadership and staff informed on engagement progress, emerging concerns, and priority items to promote timely decision-making and consistent service delivery.
  • Balance billable hour goals with high standards for quality, responsiveness, and turnaround time across multiple engagements.
  • Uphold ethical standards, safeguard confidential information, and contribute to process improvements that enhance departmental effectiveness.
  • Support work related to financial statement preparation and review as part of overall client service responsibilities.
