Job Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Tax Preparer to support a busy tax season in Palo Alto, California. This is a Contract position focused on preparing a high volume of business and individual tax filings while maintaining accuracy and timely delivery. The role is best suited for someone who can manage multiple return types, verify imported financial data, and keep work moving efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare federal tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations in accordance with applicable filing requirements.
- Examine information imported through AutoFlow and confirm supporting tax data is complete, accurate, and ready for preparation.
- Handle a substantial seasonal workload, managing approximately 100 to 200 returns at various stages of completion.
- Complete remaining individual tax filings for the current season while balancing business return priorities and turnaround expectations.
- Support preparation activities related to Schedule C reporting, rental property income and expenses, and associated tax documentation.
- Perform depreciation and capitalization analysis to ensure assets are recorded and reported correctly on tax filings.
- Enter and organize trust return information to assist with accurate preparation and downstream review.
- Prioritize assignments and coordinate daily workflow to maintain productivity and meet tax season deadlines.
- Prepare returns for final internal review and approval by designated leadership, with a primary focus on production rather than sign-off.
