Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking an Experienced Tax/Accounting professional for a direct hire opportunity with a well-established tax and accounting practice in Buffalo, NY. This full-time, in-office role is ideal for a detail-oriented tax preparer, tax associate, staff accountant, Enrolled Agent, or accounting professional with strong Form 1040 preparation experience and a solid understanding of bookkeeping and general accounting. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare federal, state, and local individual income tax returns, including Form 1040 returns with business schedules, investment schedules, deductions, credits, extensions, and estimated tax payment requirements.
- Gather, organize, review, and document client tax and financial information while maintaining accurate workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Provide bookkeeping and accounting support for business clients, including general ledger maintenance, income and expense categorization, reconciliations, and financial reporting assistance.
- Communicate professionally with individual taxpayers and business clients to request documentation, answer questions, resolve issues, and support timely completion of engagements.
- Research tax matters, identify tax issues and planning opportunities, and help ensure compliance with federal and state tax requirements.
- Manage multiple client assignments, deadlines, and seasonal workload demands with strong attention to detail and confidentiality. Compensation and Benefits
- Direct hire opportunity.
- Full-time, in-office position located in Buffalo, NY.
- Annual salary range of $50,000 to $75,000, based on experience, technical expertise, and qualifications.
- Additional hours are required during tax season.
- Comp time program for hours worked beyond 40 per week.
- Employees may earn up to approximately 120 hours of additional time annually through the comp time program.
- Earned comp time may be used for additional paid time off during the off-season.
- Unused earned comp time is paid out at year-end.

- Up to three weeks of vacation, based on eligibility requirements.
- Additional paid time off earned through the tax-season comp time program. Required Qualifications and Skills
- Prepare Form 1040 individual tax returns with business schedules, investment schedules, deductions, credits, and related tax documentation.
- Support bookkeeping and accounting functions for business clients, including reconciliations, general ledger activity, and financial statement support.
- Communicate directly with clients to collect information, clarify tax matters, and support accurate, timely completion of returns.
- Manage multiple tax and accounting assignments while meeting deadlines during regular and peak tax-season periods.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping, or public accounting experience.
- Professional tax preparation experience with significant Form 1040 preparation responsibilities.
- Experience preparing individual returns that include business schedules and individual tax reporting.
- Knowledge of federal and state individual taxation.
- Understanding of bookkeeping and general accounting principles.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and maintain strict client confidentiality.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities. Preferred Qualifications
- Enrolled Agent designation.
- Experience preparing Form 1065 partnership returns.
- Experience preparing Form 1120-S S corporation returns.
- Experience preparing Form 1120 C corporation returns.
- Public accounting firm or tax practice experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with UltraTax CS or similar tax preparation software.
- Experience with QuickBooks or QuickBooks Online.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Interest in long-term professional growth within tax preparation, business entity taxation, tax planning, client advisory services, and advanced accounting work.
