Job Description

Tax Preparer Rockwall, Texas $75,000 to $95,000 You can be good at preparing returns and still want more from your next role. Maybe you want more exposure to clients. Maybe you want to learn directly from experienced people rather than working several layers away from them. Or maybe you are ready to join a smaller CPA firm where your work is visible and there is room to take on more responsibility over time. This independent CPA firm in Rockwall TX has around 10 to 15 staff and is looking for a Tax Preparer who wants to keep building. You will work across both individual and business taxation, prepare a varied mix of returns, support more experienced members of the team, and gradually become more involved in client communication and broader tax work as your confidence develops. In a firm this size, you are much closer to the people reviewing your work, speaking with clients, and making decisions. That can make a real difference to how quickly you learn. What could be better about this move You will be part of a small independent team where your contribution is easy to see. You will get exposure across individual and business taxation rather than being limited to one narrow area. You will work closely with experienced tax professionals and have more opportunity to ask questions, understand the reasoning behind the work, and improve your technical judgement. As you become more confident, there will also be opportunities to take on greater client contact and broader responsibility. The idea is not to keep you in a production role indefinitely. It is to give you the chance to become a stronger and more rounded tax professional. What you will be doing You will prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals and privately owned businesses. Depending on your experience, that could include partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and other entities. You will organise client information, identify missing items, ask the right questions, and help keep engagements moving toward completion. You will communicate with clients where appropriate to gather information and resolve straightforward tax matters. You will also support senior members of the firm with more complex work and gain greater exposure to what happens beyond the preparation stage. Accuracy and deadlines will still matter, particularly during busy periods. But as you develop, there should be room for your role to grow with you. Who could fit You may already be working as a Tax Preparer or Tax Staff within public accounting. You could also be earlier in your career but have enough practical tax experience to work with a reasonable level of independence. You should have a solid grounding in individual and business tax preparation and be comfortable working through deadlines during busy season. The firm will value someone who is accurate, dependable, willing to ask thoughtful questions, and interested in understanding why the work is done, not just how to complete it. Why a smaller firm could suit you If your current role gives you plenty of returns to prepare but not much access to the people above you, this could feel different. In a team of around 10 to 15 people, there are fewer layers between you and the experienced professionals you can learn from. Your work is more visible. Your development is easier to notice. And as you prove yourself, there is more opportunity for your responsibilities to broaden rather than staying fixed around preparation alone. Compensation $75,000 to $95,000, depending on experience. Start with a conversation You do not need to match every point above or have an updated résumé ready. If you have a solid tax foundation and want to join a smaller CPA firm where you can keep learning, build stronger relationships, and take on more over time, this is worth exploring. Apply through Indeed or reach out directly for a confidential conversation.
