In this role, you will prepare individual and small-business tax returns, review financial documents, and clearly explain tax results and options to clients. You'll use H&R Block's professional tools, follow IRS and state regulations, and help identify tax-saving opportunities. Working in a seasonal yet potentially full-time capacity, you'll collaborate with a supportive office team, receive comprehensive training, and build your expertise in tax, compliance, and client service while making a direct impact on clients' financial decisions. Responsibilities Prepare individual and small business federal and state tax returns with accuracy and compliance to current tax laws Conduct client interviews to gather financial information and identify tax-saving opportunities and credits Review source documents such as W 2s, 1099s, receipts, and prior-year returns for completeness Explain tax outcomes, refunds, and balances due to clients in clear, client-friendly language Maintain detailed and secure digital records in H&R Block systems and protect client confidentiality Research basic to intermediate tax issues using company tools and IRS/state resources Provide proactive tax planning suggestions and recommend appropriate H&R Block products and services Collaborate with office team members to manage peak-season workflow and client scheduling Participate in initial and ongoing H&R Block tax training and certification programs Ensure adherence to ethical standards, quality controls, and all IRS and state regulations Required Skills Individual income tax preparation (Form 1040 and schedules) Small business and self employment tax knowledge (Schedule C, 1099s) Tax preparation software proficiency (e.g., H&R Block systems or similar) Basic accounting and bookkeeping principles IRS and state tax regulations and filing procedures Client interviewing and needs assessment Document review and data entry accuracy Tax research using online tools and official guidance Written and verbal communication with clients Time management during peak tax season
