Job Description
We are looking for a Controller to support the financial operations of a mid-sized company in Birmingham, Alabama. This position works closely with company leadership and helps oversee day-to-day accounting activities while providing dependable backup across several core administrative functions. The role is well suited for someone who is comfortable in a hands-on environment, values accuracy, and can contribute to a small accounting team with broad responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain financial records in QuickBooks Online and support accurate day-to-day accounting activity.
- Partner with the company president to help coordinate the work of a three-person accounting team.
- Record supplier invoices promptly and ensure payables documentation is complete and organized.
- Apply incoming customer payments accurately and keep accounts receivable balances up to date.
- Assist with monthly close activities and provide backup support in preparing financial statements.
- Step in as needed to help process customer billing and maintain invoicing accuracy.
- Provide backup coverage for payroll processing and 401(k) administrative tasks.
- Support human resources administration when needed and assist with related documentation.
- Learn and use additional internal billing tools as part of daily accounting operations.
