This role spans active development projects, stabilized multifamily and hospitality assets, and family office entities. As Senior Controller, you will own the integrity of the financial record across all entities, direct the monthly close process, and produce the reporting that ownership, investors, lenders, and advisors rely on to make important decisions. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a seasoned real estate accounting professional ready to take full ownership of a complex, multi-entity portfolio. You will build and mentor the accounting team, set policy and controls across the platform, and work directly alongside ownership — with a clear path to VP of Finance or CFO. Key Responsibilities Financial Close & Reporting
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all entities, development projects, and stabilized assets — setting the close calendar and ensuring financials are completed accurately and on time
  • Prepare and review internal financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analyses at both the asset and consolidated platform level
  • Produce and certify investor reporting packages, capital account schedules, and waterfall calculations for partnership and joint venture entities
  • Own the consolidated financial picture across ownership structures, including intercompany eliminations and family office-level reporting Property & Lease Accounting
  • Oversee property-level accounting across the stabilized portfolio including rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and lease abstractions
  • Own the interpretation and application of ASC 842 lease accounting standards across commercial, residential, and hospitality assets, establishing platform-wide policy
  • Review and approve property-level financial packages prior to distribution to ownership and asset management
  • Partner with property managers and asset managers to ensure operating results are accurately captured, and direct the resolution of anomalies Development & Construction Accounting
  • Direct accounting for active development projects, including job costing, hard and soft cost tracking, and draw request preparation and reconciliation
  • Own lender draw packages, construction loan compliance reporting, and cost-to-complete analyses in coordination with the development and project management teams
  • Determine the treatment of capitalized costs, interest carry, and development fee recognition in accordance with GAAP and applicable real estate accounting standards
  • Own the Procore-Sage Intacct integration, ensuring project cost data flows accurately into financial reporting and GL posting Treasury, Cash Management & Internal Controls
  • Own cash flow management across operating, reserve, and escrow accounts, maintaining platform-wide liquidity visibility for ownership
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and GL functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and appropriate segregation of duties
  • Design, document, and enforce accounting policies and internal controls in line with institutional and family office governance requirements
  • Monitor debt covenant compliance across financed assets and advise ownership on exposures before they become issues Tax, Audit & Compliance
  • Lead annual audit preparation and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel
  • Direct federal, state, and local tax compliance across all entities, including partnership returns, 1099 filings, and estimated payment schedules
  • Partner with advisors on tax planning initiatives such as 1031 exchanges, cost segregation studies, opportunity zone compliance, and depreciation strategy
  • Ensure financial records and documentation are organized, audit-ready, and maintained in accordance with company retention policies Systems, Process & Team Leadership
  • Own Sage Intacct and Procore configuration, including chart of accounts structure, cost code accuracy, and reporting hierarchy integrity
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting cycles across the operating portfolio and development pipeline
  • Build, manage, and mentor the accounting team — hiring, training, and developing junior staff as the platform scales
  • Drive process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce close cycle time, and improve reporting quality
  • Serve as the senior finance partner to asset management, development, and property management, and as a trusted resource to ownership Qualifications Required
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with substantial exposure to real estate and development, including at least 3 years in a controller, assistant controller, or comparable leadership capacity
  • Deep command of GAAP, including real estate-specific standards (ASC 842, capitalization of development costs, acquisition and purchase accounting)
  • Demonstrated ownership of a full-cycle close across a complex, multi-entity structure
  • Proven experience supervising, mentoring, and developing accounting staff
  • Strong property-level accounting background including rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, and lease administration
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting systems; hands-on experience with Sage Intacct and/or Procore strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and fluency working with multi-entity, multi-project financial data
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and comfort handling sensitive ownership and family office information
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Preferred
  • Active CPA licensure
  • Experience in a developer, family office, operator, or investment platform environment
  • Deep experience with construction loan draw packages, job costing, and development project accounting
  • Command of partnership accounting, waterfall distributions, and institutional investor reporting
  • System implementation, migration, or optimization experience (Sage Intacct, Procore, or comparable)
