Construction Position Summary We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee the company's accounting and financial operations for a growing construction organization. This position will be responsible for the overall accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records and will work closely with Executive Management, Operations, Project Management, Payroll, and HR. The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting and job-costing experience , with a solid understanding of WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, project profitability, cash flow, and financial reporting. This is a hands-on position for someone who can manage the accounting function while providing management with accurate financial information to support business decisions. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Management Oversee all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash management, and month-end close. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Maintain accurate financial records and account reconciliations. Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance. Coordinate with outside CPAs, auditors, banks, insurance providers, and other financial partners. Construction Accounting & Job Costing Oversee construction job-cost accounting and ensure costs and revenues are accurately recorded by project. Review labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor, and other project costs. Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion calculations. Analyze project profitability, cost-to-complete, committed costs, and potential cost overruns. Work closely with Project Managers and Operations to identify financial issues and improve project performance. Review change orders, billings, retainage, and contract-related accounting. Ensure accurate project revenue recognition and cost allocation. Assist with project forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning. Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Oversee customer billing, collections, retainage, and accounts receivable aging. Monitor outstanding receivables and work with Project Management and Operations to resolve collection issues. Oversee vendor and subcontractor payments and ensure proper documentation and approvals. Monitor payment schedules and cash requirements. Financial Reporting & Analysis Provide Executive Management with accurate financial reports, analysis, and recommendations. Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial projections. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities affecting profitability and cash flow. Provide financial analysis for projects, equipment purchases, capital expenditures, and other business decisions. Develop financial reporting and key performance indicators as needed. Leadership & Operations Lead, manage, and develop the accounting team. Establish accounting procedures, responsibilities, and deadlines. Work closely with Operations, Project Management, HR, Payroll, and Executive Management. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiency. Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes. Systems & Technology ComputerEase construction accounting software - required or strongly preferred Foundation construction accounting software - required or strongly preferred Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to learn and effectively utilize additional accounting, payroll, project management, and reporting systems. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with Controller-level experience preferred. Construction accounting experience required. Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial reporting. Experience managing accounting for multiple projects and/or related companies preferred. Experience supervising and developing accounting personnel. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively with both office and field personnel. Preferred Construction Experience General contracting Demolition Environmental Heavy civil Specialty construction Equipment-intensive construction operations Experience with bonding, insurance audits, banking relationships, and external CPA processes. Work Environment This is primarily an office-based position located in Corona, California , with regular interaction with company leadership, Project Management, Operations, and field personnel. Occasional travel to company jobsites or other company locations may be required. Compensation $100,000-$150,000 annually , depending on experience, qualifications, and construction industry experience.Pay:
