This pivotal role involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing accounting operations, and driving strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles, regulatory standards, and financial analysis, with a passion for fostering a culture of integrity and continuous improvement. As a key leader, you will champion best practices in financial management to support our mission and organizational growth. Responsibilities Oversee the preparation and presentation of timely, accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards). Manage all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and cash management. Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, and financial data analysis using advanced spreadsheet tools and accounting software. Supervise and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative environment focused on accuracy, efficiency, and professional growth. Oversee all aspects of timely report delivery including knowledge of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Ability to understand track fixed assets and renovation projects from a capitalization versus operating process. Conduct analysis to monitor expenses, optimize budgets, and support strategic decision-making through detailed financial report writing. Manage treasury functions including cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and regulatory reporting to ensure liquidity and financial stability. Oversee internal controls related to financial systems such as SOX compliance to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity. Collaborate with external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation for compliance verification. Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing financial data through Excel data analysis techniques and implementing best practices in accounting systems. Experience Proven experience as a Property Management Controller or similar role. Extensive knowledge of accounting standards including GAAP, and specific regulations relevant to nonprofit or governmental accounting environments. Demonstrated expertise in managing comprehensive accounting functions such as general ledger management, account reconciliation, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance accounting. Proficiency with financial software solutions (Realpage and Appfolio, specifically), spreadsheets (Excel), and other financial management tools for data analysis and reporting. Experience leading accounting teams with a focus on managing performance, mentoring staff, and fostering a high-performance culture. Skilled in budgeting processes, forecasting techniques, cost analysis, and financial concept application for strategic planning purposes. Ability to communicate directly and professionally with senior leads at our client firm.
