About the Role This is a hands-on Assistant Controller position supporting the Controller and CFO in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate, compliant financial reporting. You'll play a key role in the monthly close, audit, reporting, and healthcare-specific financial processes , while also acting as a backup across core accounting functions when needed. Key Responsibilities Support the monthly close process , including preparation of operating statements and board reporting Assist with Medicare & Medicaid cost reports , including follow-ups and resubmissions Partner on the annual audit , coordinating with external auditors and internal teams Support preparation of financial reports, UDS schedules, and Form 990 support schedules Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules , including monthly entries Perform monthly cost allocations across departments and programs Manage prepaid and accrued expense reconciliations Analyze and report on billing write-offs Support cash management activities , including deposits and upload files Assist with American Express activity uploads and supporting documentation Serve as a backup across AP, AR, payroll, and grants functions as needed Participate in special projects and ongoing process improvements What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required) 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a senior-level role Healthcare accounting experience is required Experience within nonprofit environments strongly preferred Strong Excel skills and overall systems proficiency Experience with MIP or similar nonprofit accounting systems is a plus Strong attention to detail with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on Comfortable working cross-functionally and partnering with leadership The Ideal Fit You're someone who thrives in a mission-driven environment , enjoys rolling up your sleeves, and wants visibility into the bigger financial picture.
