Westport, CT Job Details $140,000 - $160,000 a year 20 hours ago Qualifications Financial statement analysis GAAP Financial statement interpretation Full Job Description Controller Position Overview We are seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a growing, privately held organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will take ownership of the monthly close, financial reporting, general ledger, account reconciliations, audit preparation, and oversight of the accounting team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to the numbers and operating within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The Controller will play an important role in strengthening accounting processes and supporting the organization as it continues to grow through both organic expansion and acquisition activity.

Salary:
$140-160k + bonus Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion in accordance with GAAP. Own the preparation and review of monthly financial statements and reporting, including balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules. Maintain a thorough understanding of financial results and effectively analyze and explain balance sheet and P&L activity, trends, and variances. Ensure all balance sheet accounts, including cash, are accurately reconciled and appropriately supported. Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure transactions are properly recorded, classified, and supported. Oversee the day-to-day accounting function, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Staff Accounting activities, while remaining hands-on when needed. Maintain visibility into financial activity throughout the month, including weekly sales, receivables, collections, and other key business activities impacting financial results. Support recurring weekly and monthly financial reporting requirements, including timely reporting to banking partners and other stakeholders. Coordinate annual audit preparation and work directly with external auditors to provide requested schedules, reconciliations, documentation, and supporting information. Assist with the preparation of tax schedules and supporting documentation for external tax providers. Partner closely with the CFO and FP&A function to ensure historical financial results and accounting data are accurate, complete, and well understood. Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and other departments to understand business activity, resolve accounting questions, and ensure transactions are appropriately reflected in the financial statements. Support the accounting integration of newly acquired businesses and brands, including establishing accurate financial records, reporting processes, and opening balances. Assist with purchase accounting and other acquisition-related accounting matters as needed. Identify opportunities to improve, document, and streamline accounting processes, controls, and reporting as the organization continues to scale. Help improve the efficiency and timeliness of the monthly close process. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MBA/CPA is a plus. Approximately 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong foundation in GAAP accounting and financial reporting. Previous experience working in a smaller or mid-sized organization where responsibilities require a hands-on approach. Strong understanding of the monthly close process, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Ability to understand, analyze, and confidently discuss balance sheet and income statement activity. Experience with NetSuite is a plus, but not required. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving processes and priorities. Comfortable working within a lean accounting team and balancing both leadership responsibilities and hands-on accounting work. #LI-GW1 #LI-Hybrid #INAUG2026
