Collaboratory is looking for a Controller to join its accounting team to oversee the financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls while supporting the organization's mission to bring Southwest Florida together to solve all of the area's major social problems by 2040. Essential functions of the role are as follows with other duties as assigned. Prepare and present accurate financial statements (e.g., income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement). Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Oversee the preparation of financial reports for management, Trustees, and regulatory bodies including the Federal Grants. Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organization assets. Ensure that financial processes and systems are efficient, effective, and aligned with established organizational policies. Act as primary point of contact for the external auditors: Coordinate the preparation of the Foundation's IRS Form 990 and audited consolidated financial statements. Prepare audit schedule requested. Oversee tax reporting and compliance with local state and federal tax regulations. Manage the cash flow of the Foundation including, but not limited to, calculation and collection of administrative fees, and transfers between bank and investment accounts. Develop, implement, and monitor business performance metrics. Develop, implement, and maintain a cost accounting system to identify appropriate costs for programs, administrative overhead and fundraising activities. Coordinate the annual financial budget process, assisting staff with the preparation of the operating budget, consolidation and summaries for management. Assist staff in ongoing review and understanding of actual results monthly. Prepare budget schedule as requested. Attend Finance Committee and Audit Committee meetings. Take detailed notes and complete meeting minutes. May represent other leaders in their absence at these or other meetings. Process 1099/1096 IRS Forms annually. Develop quarterly departmental and programs budget reports. Review of all bank accounts, investment accounts, and petty cash reconciliations. Work closely with accountant in the calculation of spendable balance to grant on an annual basis. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the CFO, President & Chief Executive Officer, or designate.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and financial reporting standards. Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems. Non-profit experience including knowledge of fund accounting Leadership and team management skills. Analytical and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in finance or accounting and four to six years of experience; CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is preferred.
