This role will oversee core financial operations, guide a small team, and provide strategic support to senior leadership in a Department of Defense-focused environment. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment across reporting, controls, budgeting, and audit readiness, along with the ability to develop staff and support a growing organization.
Responsibilities:
Direct day-to-day finance activities across reporting, analysis, budgeting, and compliance to support business performance and operational goals. Lead and mentor a team of approximately five employees, including coaching, performance oversight, and support for staffing decisions in partnership with leadership and HR. Build, refine, and enforce financial controls that protect assets, monitor spending, assess liquidity, and strengthen accountability across the organization. Partner with senior leaders to review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and provide clear insight into trends, risks, and business performance. Prepare and interpret financial metrics such as margin performance, cost structure, break-even outcomes, and other indicators used to evaluate fiscal health. Collaborate with departments such as operations, human resources, information technology, and other business functions on budgeting, approvals, and financial governance for key initiatives. Coordinate audit preparation activities and ensure financial records, reporting practices, and supporting documentation meet applicable regulatory and contractual requirements. Oversee month-end close processes, financial reporting deliverables, and cash flow forecasting to maintain accurate and timely visibility into company performance. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or related leadership roles. Prior experience supporting Department of Defense programs or working within a DoD-regulated environment is required. Demonstrated success managing and developing teams, ideally with direct oversight of four to five employees. Strong background in month-end close, budget planning, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, audit support, and internal controls. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred; an associate degree with substantial relevant experience may also be considered. Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on financial performance and control-related matters.
