The organization manages approximately $1 billion in investments and regularly interfaces with high-net-worth individuals and donors, meaning the right candidate will bring not only deep technical accounting credentials but the executive presence and polish to engage confidently with sophisticated stakeholders. You will manage two high-performing, highly professional direct reports, take full ownership of the close process, and serve as a key financial leader in a fast and demanding environment. If you bring 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, supervisory credentials, and the drive and work ethic to thrive in a high-performance environment, this is a role that will reward you professionally and personally in equal measure. Key Responsibilities Own and oversee the full accounting function including month-end and year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Manage investment accounting across a approximately $1 billion portfolio — ensuring accurate recording, reporting, and reconciliation of investment activity. Lead, develop, and mentor two direct reports — a high-performing team that expects strong leadership and professional engagement. Interface regularly with high-net-worth individuals and sophisticated external stakeholders — executive presence and polished communication are essential in this environment. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting in compliance with applicable accounting standards. Support audit processes, regulatory filings, and other compliance requirements appropriate to the organization's structure. Collaborate closely with senior leadership on financial strategy, reporting, and organizational priorities. Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA a plus but not required. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with hands-on, demonstrated close experience — journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation are expected. Supervisory experience — you have led, trained, and mentored accounting staff and take that responsibility seriously. Strong executive presence and interpersonal polish — this role regularly interfaces with high-net-worth individuals and sophisticated stakeholders who expect professionalism and confidence. Advanced Excel proficiency including pivot tables and lookup functions. A genuine connection to mission-driven work — candidates should be able to speak authentically to why this kind of work matters to them. Drive and work ethic suited to a high-performance environment — hours increase around deadlines and month-end close, and that is an expected part of the role. Preferred Investment accounting experience — this is a major differentiator given the organization's $1 billion investment portfolio; financial services backgrounds are an especially strong fit. Public accounting experience — welcomed but not required; industry-only backgrounds will be considered if hands-on close experience is clearly demonstrated. Familiarity with specialized financial platforms used in investment or foundation management contexts. Why you'll love working here A Controller seat with genuine complexity and sophistication — investment accounting at scale, high-net-worth stakeholder engagement, and a pace that keeps experienced finance leaders sharp. A mission that carries real meaning — this organization makes a measurable impact in the community, and the people here take that seriously. An outstanding benefits package anchored by an exceptional retirement structure — up to 12% in total employer contributions after 12 months, with no vesting period on any employer-paid contributions. A high-performing, professional team that is a genuine pleasure to lead — two direct reports who bring their best every day and will thrive with strong mentorship. A stable, well-resourced organization that operates with the discipline and rigor of a financial institution, offering long-term career stability alongside meaningful work.
