The company's products include scented waxes and warmers, fragrance oils, fragrance heaters and diffusers, and jar candles as well as LED candles & outdoor lighting products. The company primarily sells its products, including its flagship brand Scentsationals, to larger retailers like Walmart, Kroger, Target, and Costco, as well as through a strong e-commerce presence. Position Summary The Operations Controller owns inventory costing and valuation, manufacturing variance analysis, portions of the month end close, and participates in the preparation of the annual budget and regular forecasting. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role is the financial connection between the Chief Operating Officer and Operations team and the general ledger
  • setting and maintaining standard costs, explaining margin and variance drivers to operations leadership, and ensuring inventory is accurately stated and properly controlled.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will close the books on inventory and cost of goods sold each month, partner with Operations on sourcing and pricing decisions, evaluate productivity initiatives and build the reporting that leadership uses to understand where the company makes and loses money. Key Responsibilities Standard Costing, Inventory Valuation & Variances Own the standard cost system: develop, maintain, and annually roll forward standard costs for all raw materials, components, work-in-process, and finished goods. Maintain bills of material (BOMs) and routings in partnership with Operations; validate material, labor, and overhead components for accuracy. Develop and apply overhead absorption rates; analyze over
  • and under-absorption and recommend Value inventory in accordance with US GAAP, including standard cost Maintain reserves for excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory; present reserve recommendations to the CFO and VP of Finance.
Analyze and explain purchase price variance (PPV), material usage, labor efficiency and rate, scrap, rework, and overhead variances. Investigate significant variances with Operations and drive them to root cause and corrective Month-End Close & Reporting Own the inventory and cost of goods sold sections of the monthly close, including journal entries, review of related account reconciliations, and flux analysis. Deliver monthly inventory analytics, including rollforwards, inflation tracking, results vs forecast and budget, and core KPIs to management. Partner with the VP of Finance on the annual budget and periodic forecasts for standard costs, inventory, COGS, and manufacturing spend. Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for the annual audit and serve as the primary contact for cost

Inventory Control & Physical Accuracy Partner with Operations to oversee the cycle count program across manufacturing, warehouse, and third-party locations; track count accuracy and drive corrective action on recurring discrepancies. Coordinate and observe physical inventories with internal and external Partner with Operations to strengthen transaction accuracy, receiving, and material movement Systems, Process & Controls Serve as the finance owner of costing functionality within our Document and maintain internal controls over inventory and cost accounting; remediate deficiencies identified in testing or audit. Identify and lead process automation and reporting improvements that reduce manual effort and close time, including AI solutions within the Company's established policies. Review and maintain process narratives for inventory and COGS on an annual Leadership & Business Partnering Lead, coach, and develop direct reports, including goal setting, performance reviews, and career Act as a trusted finance partner to all departments within Operations, including Production, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Warehouse, as well as the Rimports executive leadership team. Translate cost and variance data into plain-language insight that non-financial leaders can act Support continuous improvement, efficiency, and cost-reduction initiatives with credible financial quantification of savings. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in cost accounting within a manufacturing / consumer products / distribution environment. Demonstrated expertise in standard costing, BOM and routing structures, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variance analysis. Working knowledge of US GAAP as applied to inventory and cost of goods. Advanced Excel. Hands-on experience with a full-featured ERP. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with the judgment to know which variances. Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial results to operations audiences. Preferred Qualifications CPA, CMA, or MBA. Experience working in NetSuite is highly preferred, but not a requirement. Familiarity with lean manufacturing / continuous improvement methodologies. Experience supporting a company through rapid growth, including acquisition integration. Proficiency with Claude or other AI models, specifically in developing custom scheduled tasks, skills, and projects to automate redundant processes. Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, import and tariff cost environments. Competencies for Success Ownership
