Job Description:
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual who will oversee the company's financial records and account personnel. You will be responsible for maintaining all procedures and controls related to the company's financial accounts. Responsibilities Maintain compliance with government agencies Act as the point of contact for external auditors Maintain internal books and finances Analyze financial transactions Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting 10+ years of accounting experience, with 5+ years of direct experience in construction accounting Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) GAAP knowledge, CPA preferred Strong written, verbal and collaboration skills Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for an established and growing construction company. This role is responsible for financial reporting, job cost accounting, budgeting, cash flow management, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and industry-specific requirements. The ideal candidate has strong construction accounting experience and the ability to work closely with operations, project management, and ownership. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, waiver program, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close Manage job cost accounting, including WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion reporting, and cost-to-complete analysis Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Monitor project profitability, labor burden, overhead allocation, and variance analysis Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, bonding requirements and support, and credit lines Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls Coordinate with external CPA firm on year-end audit, tax filings, and reviews Perform all payroll and payroll related reporting and allocations, including paid leave documentation and systems, certified payroll, and prevailing wage reporting where applicable Oversee all HR responsibilities, including 410(k) benefit management, employee benefit programs, onboarding assistance, and IT management assistance Provide support in areas of insurance, litigation, financial audits, safety and workers' comp Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning Improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls as the company scales Provide financial insights and reports to ownership Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred) 10+ years of accounting experience, with 5+ years of direct experience in construction accounting Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion, and retainage Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, or similar) Strong Excel skills and financial analysis capability High attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines Ability to work independently and partner with operations and ownership Preferred Qualifications Experience working with general contractors and/or subcontractors Familiarity with multi-entity structures, project-based accounting, and bonding requirements Experience supporting growth-stage or owner-led construction companies Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary, commensurate with experience Benefits package including health insurance, PTO, and 401K Opportunity to play a key leadership role in a growing organization
