Interim Assistant Controller

Interim Assistant Controller Southwest Indianapolis, IN (Onsite) Contract / Interim Opportunity | 3-6+ Months Our client, a growing company located on the southwest side of Indianapolis, is seeking an Interim Assistant Controller to provide hands-on accounting leadership and operational support during a transitional period. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys digging into details, and can quickly stabilize and improve accounting processes. This position will work closely with the CFO and will oversee day-to-day accounting operations including month-end close, job cost analysis, and financial reporting. Responsibilities Manage all accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities Own month-end processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting processes, and documentation procedures Support cash flow management, forecasting, and budget tracking Assist with preparation of financial reports for ownership and external stakeholders Partner with operations/project managers to ensure accurate project billing, cost allocation, and revenue recognition Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Prior experience as Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar leadership role Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar preferred Advanced Excel skills Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and quickly assess accounting issues in a transitional environment Ideal Candidate Hands-on and willing to roll up sleeves in a lean accounting department Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with transactional detail Experience stepping into organizations needing process improvement, cleanup, or additional accounting structure Strong communicator who can partner effectively with ownership and operational teams Compensation Competitive hourly rate based on experience Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting.
