Job Description
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls for John Jones Auto Group. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and strong communication between accounting, management, and dealership leadership.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, schedules, and general ledger activity. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements for accuracy and completeness. Ensure all dealership accounting practices comply with company policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable regulations. Manage month-end and year-end close processes. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure schedules are maintained and accurate. Partner with department managers to review financial performance, expenses, and operational trends. Maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure accurate reporting. Supervise, train, and support accounting office staff. Assist with audits, tax preparation, manufacturer reporting, and other financial requests as needed. Identify process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and accountability within the accounting office. Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, and company information.Qualifications:
Previous automotive dealership accounting experience required. Prior Controller or Finance Manager experience preferred. Strong knowledge of dealership financial statements, schedules, general ledger, and month-end close. Experience with dealership management systems preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Preferred Experience Previous automotive dealership Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred Strong understanding of dealership accounting processes, financial statements, and month-end close procedures Experience managing multi-store or multi-franchise accounting operations preferred Knowledge of dealership management systems (DMS) and accounting software Experience with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and manufacturer reporting Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting office staff Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills preferred Why Join John Jones Auto Group?
