We are looking for an experienced Divisional/Plant Controller to join a contract engagement supporting a manufacturing-focused finance organization in Manhattan, Kansas. This position will provide both leadership and direct accounting execution to keep core financial activities running smoothly during a period of transition. The role is well suited for a hands-on accounting specialist who can operate independently, partner with senior leadership, and bring structure to daily accounting operations.

Responsibilities:

Direct the monthly close cycle and ensure financial results are completed accurately and on schedule. Prepare, review, and resolve bank and balance sheet reconciliations to maintain reliable financial records. Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by monitoring entries, reviewing transactions, and correcting discrepancies as needed. Deliver day-to-day accounting support while improving workflows that strengthen efficiency and consistency across the function. Work closely with finance leadership to address priorities, provide analysis, and manage urgent accounting needs. Take ownership of core accounting activities to reduce time spent by leadership on routine operational matters. Troubleshoot minor issues within the Sage environment and help resolve process gaps affecting accounting accuracy or usability. Provide guidance and oversight to one accounting team member, helping ensure work is completed properly and on time. Support financial reporting activities and contribute to a stable, well-controlled accounting environment. Apply cost accounting knowledge within a manufacturing setting to support accurate reporting and operational insight. At least 3 years of experience in a Controller, Plant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role. Strong command of month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting practices. Experience in manufacturing cost accounting and broader cost accounting principles. Hands-on knowledge of general ledger management and day-to-day accounting operations. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with executive leadership. Prior experience in a controllership capacity with responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records. Familiarity with Sage is preferred, including the ability to identify and address minor system-related issues.
