We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a small nonprofit organization in Metairie, Louisiana. This newly established role will provide financial leadership, strengthen accounting operations, and bring structure to reporting and compliance activities. The ideal candidate will combine deep nonprofit accounting expertise with strong communication skills to work effectively with donors, internal stakeholders, and external accounting partners.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day accounting function for the organization, ensuring accurate financial records and dependable month-end and year-end processes.
- Reconcile and update delayed financial records, bringing the books current and improving the overall integrity of accounting data.
- Manage fund accounting activities by tracking restricted and unrestricted resources in accordance with nonprofit reporting standards.
- Oversee project-based financial activity, monitoring costs, allocations, and reporting requirements across programs and initiatives.
- Serve as a primary financial contact for donor-related matters, providing clear information and supporting stewardship through accurate reporting.
- Partner closely with the third-party accounting firm to coordinate deliverables, resolve discrepancies, and support timely financial close activities.
- Maintain and optimize accounting records within QuickBooks, ensuring transactions are properly coded and documented.
- Prepare financial statements, internal reports, and supporting schedules to help leadership make informed business decisions.
This is a very small office setting so we need a hands on Controller with great interpersonal skills to manage the books and have heavy interaction with major donors. If you are a CPA or CPA candidate with 10+ years of fund accounting and/or non-profit accounting, for confidential consideration, please apply directly and call Carrie Lewis at 504-383-0612 to discuss.
